Questions came up after that last FLCCC weekly webinar this week about collagen and taking such as a dietary supplement and worsening you LongCOVID condition.
Well.... the whole Collagen thing is quite complex, and I don't believe researchers know all there is to know about it (but claim to, such the hubris of some researchers). Just to remind everyone collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals. It generates connective tissues from bone to muscles and tendons and even cartilage. I don't think it should be vilified if mentioned in a few articles in our journals (do we even trust them anymore?). More on Collagen and the family of ''types'' here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3003457.
The same mistake was made years ago in the Lyme community when collagen ingestion was accused of ''feeding borrelia"; as the Bb (borrelia) spirochete is known to drill down into collagen (cartilage and myelin sheath and excreted digestive enzymes from its body to digest and absorb collagen as a nutrient). Several in ILADS took that to mean (hypothesized) that collagen was bad for you. This has essentially been debunked. Reference this for an explanation: www.lifestylematrix.com/blog/post/collagen-and-lyme-why-this-connection-is-key-for-tissue-repair. And…Dr. Rawles (a rather well known LLMD) counters this concept here: www.rawlsmd.com/health-articles/do-collagen-supplements-feed-lyme. Let us not make the same mistakes today regarding collagen and COVID (spike).
The extrinsic and intrinsic coagulation systems are initiated after vascular disruption via Tissue Factor and collagen. May not necessarily mean by ingestion of collagen this situation is made worse. (from 2nd article from an email thread of FLCCC advisors) B. Furie and B. C. Furie, “Mechanisms of thrombus formation,” The New England Journal of Medicine, vol. 359, no. 9, pp. 938–949, 2008.
Collagen-induced phospholipase C-g2 (in the 1st article emailed among FLCCC advisors) may mean just that (as Dr. Jordan Vaughn points out). The collagen (types) we have intrinsically may again not represent what we ingest.
BTW, today marks the 140th birthday of Polish scientist Casimir Funk who is credited with developing the notion of Vital-Amines (nowadays referred to as vitamins).
